September 2007 Continued
Here's a frame between a C40-9W and NS 1000.
V08 has a V12 under the hood. NS 7200 is inside the E&M shop behind V08.
HLCX 5959.
NS 4270.
Chestnut Avenue beside the Juniata Shop.
October 2007
Three Juniata rebuilds, a GP38-3, a future GP40-2, and a new RPU6.
Plow storage is next to the big sign.
The big brown building is the power plant. The Juniata Shop generates its own electricity, steam, and air from coal-fired boilers.
The building in the middle is the General Office Building.
Main entrance.
Another part of the powerplant.
The main sign again with the stack behind.
Juniata from the sky again.
Facing northeast.
Notice the OCS F units are coupled nose to nose at the circle.
Wide on the circle.
To a get a side view of the shop, we have to fly quite a distance away to get everything in the shot.
New slug NS 874 has fresh paint but is missing its trucks.
November 2007
SAN 1100, an SW1500 is at JBS for work.
December 2007
A crane lowers a new cab onto a frame belonging to a GP40-2 rebuild.
NS 2206 has been moved over to the circle within the last couple days. This is where they strip the units down to a frame.
January 2008
These two SD50's (6509 and 6525) were just plucked from the deadline. In April 2008, they became PRLX 4003 and 4004.
SD9M at the freight shop.
Another HLCX SD60 has been released from the shop after some work.
February 2008
HLCX unit here for overhaul.
Apparently the NRE 3GS21B's haven't been performing well. 301 is back at JBS for maybe the 2nd time since going into service.
March 2008
Yet another frame being stripped at JBS. This frame belongs to a long hood forward geep.
NS 6512 looks suspiciously like a future SD40-3.
VRE V24 is here for work with NS 7216 in the background.
Now sure what the white canvas is all about, but this unit should signal the restart of the 5600 rebuilds I imagine.
VRE V31.
NS 4133 has joined 2874.
NS 6512 has been blasted and primed. The next step is to begin adding all the guts. This will be the first SD50/SD40-3 conversion.
April 2008
A frame from a future NS rebuild has a pair of CEFX lease units as company.
NS 6512 has been pulled out of the wreck shop and sits along Chestnut Avenue.
About 3/4 of the GP38's stored in the deadline have been removed and brought over to the lumber tracks. This is where locomotives are placed before they enter a rebuild program.
This frame belongs to NS 3199, an SD40/SD40-2 conversion.
Side view of NS 6512.
The three CEFX visitors are still here.
NS 5431, an SD50, has been stored here for at least a year or so. Looks like it will have a new life as an SD40E.
2218 was the regular Altoona switcher but it's been in the shop for quite a while. Here it is with the main generator removed.
After receiving some damage to its radiator, NS 3329 is at the shop with its long hood removed.
NS 7143 has been here for quite a while. Just a few weeks ago this unit was stored behind the Miscellaneous #2 building.
Here's a future GP40-2 rebuild. Work has already started on it.
Another shot of 3329.
NS 5417 is a future SD40E conversion.
Look at all the blue.
Three frames and a slug.
This is the 2839. It should become a GP40-2 slug master.
This is the NS 701, former RJC 2792, one of two RPE4C road slugs being built. Notice the two steel boxes on the 701.
