September 2008 Continued
The Juniata Shop "Trackmobile."
A better shot of NS 2908.
The remains of NS 5234.
RPRX 2403 is beeing prepped for conversion to genset.
October 2008
The circle is crowded.
NS 2943 was dug out of the deadline and spruced up a bit for the Conrail Historical Society's 2008 convention in Altoona.
This is NS 3102, a GP40-2 rebuild. Don't pay any attention to the numbers chalked on the air tank. 3102 is not former 2954.
The Juniata Power Plant from the north end.
NS 2943 next to the G.O.B.
November 2008
This RPE4C road slug is the former NS 2908.
NS 2910 will be a road slug also, as well as the unit behind it.
The Spirit of Conrail has a new parking spot since being put on display for the Conrail Historical Society.
A pair of ex-NJT/ex-Amtrak F40's.
Another ex-NJT F40.
March 2009
Some stored HLCX SD60s.
Every few months, the stored engines on the lumber tracks seem to change. The last time I took this shot, there was nothing but blue GP38s here. Now there is a mix.
Last night a power move of 10 SD50's arrived at Juniata from Conway. All 10 in this view.
June 2009
MBTA GP40MC's are coming to JBS for overhaul.
Interesting cab designs.
Buckingham Branch GP40 #6 is here for fire damage repair.
UPY 2004, previously a green goat, is still here. It was supposed to be converted to a genset, but it has been stuck in this stage for quite a while.
NS 1000 and 5531.
A couple of F units are left outside.
Notice all the new cabs and noses. Juniata's majority supplier of EMD cabs was Super Steel Schenectady, but that plant closed. They now come from a different company.
Overall view from the southwest.
Lots of color on the lumber storage tracks with blue, yellow, and red. The last time I took this shot, it was all black with GP38's.
SD50's, RP20BD's, and an SD40-2.
July 2009
Keith Burkey spots NS 999, a BP-4 class fully battery powered switcher. The frame belongs to NS 2911, and notice only a small portion of the long hood was used. The cab is new as well.

This unit has no generator to charge the batteries except regenerative braking from Brookville Manufacturing. It is designed to be plugged in when not in use.

August 2009
A pair of long hood forward SD40-2s are getting switched to short hood forward. Notice the new noses nearby, not sure if those are for these two.
NS 5531 has been set aside.
NS 5412 and 5400 were side swiped recently.
Construction is well underway on the new smoke stack for the Juniata Shops power plant.
Bruce was super lucky. He caught three road slugs, all in slightly different stages of construction.

September 2009
The new stack is now full height.
NS slug 707 is nearly finished in this photo.
Lots of stuff at the circle including a GP38 to be converted to a slug.
One of several MBTA units here for overhaul.
The UPY greengoat was moved over with the two NITX gensets after the stored SD50s were moved to the deadline tracks.
UPY 2004 was stripped down for conversion to a genset, but so far nothing more has happened.
When Railpower went bankrupt, these two wound up property of NS to settle a debt. We think the UPY unit was included, but we're not sure what NS will do with these yet. NITX RP20BD 1706 has been finished since April 2009. The other was to become NITX 1707, but was never repainted.
The lumber storage track have a variety of power on them today.
October 2009
The Master Mechanics Building, built 1882 as part of the Altoona Machine Shops, now contains the main exhibits and offices of the Altoona Railroaders Memorial Museum.
This is former PRR firehouse #7 next to the Master Mechanics Building. Inside are the offices of Altoona Pipe & Steel. The building dates to sometime between 1881 and 1905.
Behind the previous firehouse is this large shop building built 1905 as a body shop for the 12th St. Car Shops.
This former PRR firehouse was also built before 1905 and was once part of the Altoona Car Shops. Today it contains offices for Home Nursing Agency.
